I'm Back in class today, reflecting on a whole weekend of gaming at the Showdown LAN. I got lucky in more ways than you could imagine. It was BYOC, and I was not about to lug my 40 lb armour case computer, but I was lucky enough to have one of my coworkers from gotgame bring an extra computer. I rang for team Bonk in the TF2 tournament. The competition was pretty fierce, and we ended up in 4th place, just shy of winning a prize. There were a few pub teams that we just stomped on, but we were up against other teams that were pug teams, made up of players from pro gaming teams like pandemic/xensity (xendemic), and experiment/sway/devastation.
I had a lot of fun playing in the tournament, wearing the gotgame headset, and I have to thank Zain and his teammates for being so kind and getting me a place to stay, even when my games ran longer than theirs. It was a lot of fun, we played some epic rounds of beer pong. The first night we played beer pong, our host had misplaced his balls, so we used aluminum foil instead. The would eventually get waterlogged and this threw all of our aim off, so the games lasted a little longer than they should have. The next night we found the ping pong balls in the beer pong cabinet (go figure). So it was on.
At the LAN they had raffles, and prizes given away after they gave out the prizes for the tournament winners. The first place prize was a Quad Core Extreme Edition, and a GeForce GTX 260. Second place took home an Antec 1200 case.
I stood in line, and signed up for the raffle to get lucky number 130. Then I took my seat and waited patiently for all the prizes to be given out. They started the raffle, gave out a whole mess of assorted prizes. Then, it was down to the last 2 raffle prizes: a GTX 260, and a laptop. I looked at my friend, and said, "I'm going to win that video card." The guy on stage loved to keep us in suspense, and he would draw out the numbers slowly. He announced "The winner of this BFG GTX 260 is number One....three...... zero!" I had planned on just staying silent, and pumping my fist if i won anything, but for this card, I was just too excited...as soon as he said the last number I jumped out of my chair and ran up on stage "YES! ahahahah!!" Took the Box and kissed it. I felt like I had just won the tournament then and there.
